Professor Digby Macdonald visits CCEIC

Eminent scientist Dr Digby Macdonald, Professor in Residence, Departments of Nuclear Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, University of California, Berkley, visited CCEIC in November 2016 and gave a series of lectures on his Point Defect Model for localised corrosion of passive alloys.  Digby is also the Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State University.  CCEIC is discussing a collaborative project with Digby on detecting corrosion under insulation (CUI) using impedance techniques.  Dr Thunyaluk Pojtanabuntoeng (Kod) is planning to visit Berkley in March 2017 to learn PDM theory and discuss the CUI project.

Dr Macdonald  is a Fellow of several societies (FRSC, FRSNZ, FNACE, FECS, FISE, FIC, FASM, FWIC) and has won numerous awards for his contribution to science, including the Khwarizmi Laureate in Fundamental science, Doctuer Honoris Causa-INSA Lyon, Faraday Memorial Trust Gold Medalist (SAEST), Gibbs Award Recipient (IAPWS), De Tao Master, Frumkin Memorial Medalist (ISE), 2014, and the OLIN Palladium Medalist (ECS), 2015.
